Feliz dia de la Hispanidad a todos!

What does it mean ‘Día de la Hispanidad’?

‘Día de la Hispanidad’ means ‘Hispanic Day’ and it is the national holiday of Spain.  In the US it is celebrated as ‘Columbus Day’.

Why is celebrated on 12th October?

It is celebrated on the 12th of October to mark the day that Christopher Columbus first set foot in the Americas.

Where is celebrated?

Dia de le Hispanidad is celebrated in Spain.  The discovery of the Americas was so important for Spain because this is what started the expansion of the Spanish language and culture across to the newly found land.

Who is Mafalda?

Mafalda is a comic stip written and drawn by Joaquin Salvador Lavado.  Mafalda is a 6yr old girl who cares about humanity and world peace.  She has a strong political view of the world and often speaks about mature topics.  The strip ran from 1964 to 1973 and was very popular in Latin America, Europe, Quebec and in Asia, leading to two animated cartoon series and a movie.

Who is Quino?

Joaquin Salvador Lavado is better known as Quino.  Quino was born to Spanish immigrants in Argentina.  He combines humour and social topics in his cartoons.
